What: Reach the World’s flagship virtual exchange program is designed to match one volunteer traveler with one K-12 classroom in the U.S. for a curated online learning experience over the course of 6-12 weeks. What: Reach the World’s broadcast model virtual exchange program shares epic journeys of all lengths with large and diverse student audiences in partnership with aligned organizations.
Who: Individual travelers who are studying, working, living, or conducting research outside of the United States for a minimum of four weeks. Who: Expedition teams, organizations, or individuals looking to build a legacy for their work through a low-cost, high-impact Education & Outreach program.

Build digital storytelling skills and expand your network while serving as a global role model for youth who embark on a virtual exchange journey with you as their guide. Investigate your surroundings with purpose, and inspire the next generation of global citizens to be curious about the world – just like you. Why: Broaden the impact of your explorations by inviting youth to embark on a virtual exchange journey with you as their guide. When you partner with Reach the World for a low-cost, high-impact Education & Outreach program, you receive the tools and support to engage large and diverse student audiences while building a legacy for your work.
How: Over the course of a 6-12 week virtual exchange, you will write one 500-700 word article for your students per week (based on an editorial calendar you design with your partner educator) and connect live with students during 2-4 video conferences.

How: Every virtual exchange is as unique as the story it tells, and all programs are custom-designed to make E&O fun, easy, and effective. You will work with RTW staff to develop media-rich written articles and livestream events hosted by RTW staff.

When: Apply any time to become eligible for a classroom match during your time abroad. Most traveler-classroom matches take place during the U.S. academic year (September-May). When: Before, during, and after the most active period(s) of your explorations. Timing is purposefully flexible to accommodate the demands and uncertainty of many expeditions.
Where: All virtual exchange articles are published on a dedicated journey homepage at reachtheworld.org. Video conferences take place in closed (private) Zoom calls. Where possible, you will have the opportunity to visit your matched classroom in person before or after your virtual exchange journey together. RTW staff host video conferences on Streamyard and stream them live via RTW’s YouTube channel to facilitate widespread student participation. Livestream recordings are published to the journey homepage and included in 4-, 6- and 8-week on-demand itineraries for classrooms to use upon the conclusion of the live virtual exchange.
